 1. Crew actions.&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
  a. The pilot on the controls (P*), upon detecting the engine failure, will initiate the&lt;br /&gt;
  immediate action steps in accordance with the operator’s manual. He will remain focused&lt;br /&gt;
  outside the aircraft, select an appropriate landing area, and call for the checklist to verify his&lt;br /&gt;
  response.&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;br /&gt;
  b. The IP will announce: &amp;quot;Simulated engine failure&amp;quot; and provide adequate warning for&lt;br /&gt;
  corrective action, if engine operating limits may be exceeded. The IP will confirm the proper&lt;br /&gt;
  execution of immediate action steps.&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;br /&gt;
  c. The nonrated crewmember (NCM) will continually monitor the condition of the aircraft.&lt;br /&gt;
  He will simulate preparing passengers for crash landing and perform any other duties as&lt;br /&gt;
  directed by the P*/P (pilot not on the controls).&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
 2. Procedures.&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
  a. Upon detecting engine failure, the P* will lower the collective to maintain rotor&lt;br /&gt;
  revolutions per minute (RPM) within limits while adjusting the pedals to trim the aircraft.&lt;br /&gt;
  The P* will select a suitable landing area and, using turns and adjusting airspeed as&lt;br /&gt;
  necessary, maneuver the aircraft for a safe landing to the intended landing area. (The final&lt;br /&gt;
  approach should generally be into the wind.) The P* will direct the IP to simulate setting the&lt;br /&gt;
  governor switch to EMER. If time permits the P* will direct the IP to set the transponder to&lt;br /&gt;
  EMER and transmit a Mayday call on the GUARD frequency. The standardization instructor&lt;br /&gt;
  pilot (SP)/IP will monitor the rotor RPM, gas producer, and aircraft in trim through out the&lt;br /&gt;
  maneuver. The P* should plan each forced landing as if continuing to the ground.&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;br /&gt;
  b. Prior to reaching 400 feet AGL with the aircraft in a safe autorotative profile, the IP will&lt;br /&gt;
  state one of three commands: “power recovery,” “Terminate with power,” or “Touchdown.”&lt;br /&gt;
  (The emergency procedures training criteria outlined in AR 95-1 must be met before&lt;br /&gt;
  touchdown autorotations are performed.) The P* performs the following actions during these&lt;br /&gt;
  autorotations.&lt;br /&gt;
  &lt;br /&gt;
 (1) Power recovery. Upon receiving the command &amp;quot;Power recovery,&amp;quot; immediately&lt;br /&gt;
 establish normal operating RPM by smoothly adjusting the throttle to the fully open&lt;br /&gt;
 position. Maintain the aircraft in trim with the pedals. After normal operating RPM has&lt;br /&gt;
 been regained, increase the collective to establish a normal climb prior to reaching 200&lt;br /&gt;
 feet AGL.&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
 (2) Terminate with power. Upon receiving the command &amp;quot;Terminate with power,&amp;quot;&lt;br /&gt;
 continue the autorotative descent. Prior to reaching 100 feet AGL, reestablish normal&lt;br /&gt;
 operating RPM, adjust the collective as necessary trim the aircraft with the pedals, and&lt;br /&gt;
 maintain the autorotation. At approximately 100 feet AGL, apply aft cyclic to initiate a&lt;br /&gt;
 smooth, progressive deceleration. Using the cyclic and pedals, align the aircraft with the&lt;br /&gt;
 intended landing area. Adjust the collective, if required, to prevent excessive rotor RPM.&lt;br /&gt;
 At approximately 15 feet AGL, apply sufficient collective to control the rate of descent&lt;br /&gt;
 and ground speed. The rate of descent and ground speed should be zero at 3 to 5 feet&lt;br /&gt;
 AGL with the aircraft in a landing attitude.&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
 (3) Touchdown. Upon receiving the command &amp;quot;Touchdown,&amp;quot; continue the autorotative&lt;br /&gt;
 descent. At approximately 100 feet AGL, apply aft cyclic to initiate a smooth,&lt;br /&gt;
 progressive deceleration. Maintain aircraft alignment with the touchdown area by&lt;br /&gt;
 properly adjusting the pedals and cyclic. Adjust the collective as necessary to prevent&lt;br /&gt;
 excessive rotor RPM. At approximately 15 feet AGL, apply sufficient collective to&lt;br /&gt;
 control the rate of descent and ground speed. (The amount of collective applied and the&lt;br /&gt;
 rate at which it is applied will depend on the rate of descent and ground speed.) Adjust&lt;br /&gt;
 the cyclic to attain a landing attitude, and apply collective as necessary just prior to&lt;br /&gt;
 touch-down to cushion the landing. After touchdown, maintain ground track alignment&lt;br /&gt;
 with the pedals. When the aircraft has come to a complete stop, lower the collective and&lt;br /&gt;
 neutralize the pedals and cyclic.&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
